How long a Houston remodel takes

Realistic on-site timelines for a Houston remodel by project type, and why the design and permitting time up front is what keeps the build itself predictable.

Two clocks: design and build

Every remodel has two timelines — the design-and-permit phase before work starts, and the build itself. Resolving plans, selections and allowances up front is what lets the build run on schedule instead of stalling for decisions.

The on-site ranges below are typical 2026 Houston figures once design and selections are finished.

Typical on-site timelines by project (2026)

Kitchen remodel: about 8–12 weeks on site.

Bathroom remodel: about 5–8 weeks — waterproofing and tile set the pace, and we never rush the layers that protect the room long-term.

Whole-home transformation: about 4–9 months, depending on size, structural scope and selections.

Home addition: about 3–5 months — an addition is a small building tied into your existing home, so foundation, framing and roof integration drive the schedule.

Outdoor living: about 4–8 weeks, with covered structures and outdoor kitchens adding time for gas, water and electrical.

What design and permits add up front

Plan on design and permitting before the on-site clock starts. Simple City of Houston residential permits are often reviewed in days, while major remodels and additions that need full plan review can take several weeks to a few months (City of Houston Permitting Center).

That front-loaded time is not lost time — it is what prevents change orders, delays and surprises once the crew is on site.

How Bager keeps a schedule honest

One project manager runs the site and reports on a set cadence, so you always know where the work stands. You get a schedule before demolition, and the fixed investment is set before we break ground. Decisions happen before the build, not during it.
